The hinge does the work

The illusion lives in one detail: the falling half must darken as it rotates past vertical, and the card underneath must already show the new digit. Skip either and it reads as a fade.

Hours and minutes as separate widgets

Stack an hours card above a minutes card for a two-widget wall clock, or run the combined face in a medium slot. Both are included.

Fullscreen for the desk

Turn the phone sideways, prop it up, and the flip clock fills the screen with the display staying awake. A nightstand clock that came free with the phone you already own.

Why split-flap still feels good in 2026

Split-flap displays were an engineering compromise: cheap to drive, readable from far away, mechanically noisy. The sound and the stagger were side effects. Sixty years later those side effects are the entire appeal.

Every modern flip clock is an homage to that accident — which is why the ones that only cross-fade between numbers feel hollow. The eye is looking for the fall.

WidgetClock’s flip faces animate the fall wherever iOS allows a live view, and hold a clean, correct card everywhere else.

Questions

Flip, answered.

Does the flip animation run in the Home Screen widget?

iOS does not give third-party Home Screen widgets a continuous animation loop, so there the card updates cleanly on each minute. The full falling animation runs in the app, in fullscreen mode and in StandBy.

Is there a flip clock screensaver mode?

Yes — the fullscreen clock keeps the display awake, dims to a night level, and works in landscape on a stand or charger.

Can I get flip in 24-hour format?

Yes, and you can hide the AM/PM card entirely.
