Neon

Bent glass,

A neon sign is a tube of light with a soft halo bleeding onto whatever is behind it. Get the bleed wrong and you have a coloured font. These get the bleed right.

Core, glow, spill

Three layers: a near-white hot core, a saturated halo, and a wide dim spill on the surface behind. Real neon has all three; most widget “glow” has one.

Azure, green, pink

Three gases with genuinely different behaviour — pink bleeds furthest, green reads sharpest, azure sits coolest against a dark wallpaper.

Built for dark mode

These faces assume a dark background and lean into it. On an OLED iPhone the black is off, so the tube is the only thing drawing power.

Questions

Neon, answered.

Does a neon widget look right on a light wallpaper?

Not really — glow needs darkness to read. Pair it with a dark or photographic wallpaper, or use the Bold or Editorial faces on light backgrounds.

Can I change the neon colour?

Yes, the neon family ships in azure, green and pink, switchable without changing the layout.
